Flotilla 3-5 members Eric, Kim & Rose Castrobran are members of the US Coast Guard's Aids to Navigation Team Los Angeles/Long Beach (USCG ANT LA/LB). Eric is a Coast Guard trained and certified Lighthouse Technician, Kim & Rose are Coast Guard trained and certified Minor Aids Technicians. All three have assisted CG ANT in repairs and maintenance on lighthouses and navigational aids throughout CG Sector Los Angeles, including Point Vicente, Angels Gate, Point Hueneme, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Point Conception, Point Arguello and Anacapa Lighthouses. All three are recognized by the CG Auxiliary by special District Appointment as CG Auxiliary Lighthouse Keepers, Eric at Point Vicente and Kim & Rose at Point Hueneme Lighthouses.

Lighthouse Road Trip

The month of January 2007 saw Rose & Kim Castrobran team up with Coast Guard's Aids to Navigation Team headed by Senior Chief Dave Bullard and XPO Chad Rous on a road trip to perform maintenance and repairs at Santa Barbara, San Luis, Point Arguello, and Point Conception Lightouses. USCG Captain of the Port, Capt. Paul Wiedenhoeft joined the trip at Point Arguello and Point Conception lighthouses. Also included was a nighttime stop at Point Hueneme Light.

Maritime Domain Awareness

WHAT IS MARITIME DOMAIN AWARENESS?

MDA is defined as “the effective understanding of anything associated with the global maritime environment that could impact the security, safety, economy or environment of the United States.” (Also see: ALCOAST 160/04)

WHERE DOES THE AUXILIARY FIT IN?

Serving both the Safety and Security missions of the Coast Guard, the Auxiliary provides both direct and supplemental services in support of the MDA strategies of Awareness, Prevention, Protection and Response.
